Alaska Community Share is a coalition of Alaska-based non-profit; social, educational, health, arts, youth, senior and environmental related organizations -- cooperating to raise funds through workplace giving. Member agencies help people in need, create social change, advocate for women's issues, promote cultural awareness, promote basic and affordable health care, and protect our environment.

Association of Fundraising Professionals, Alaska Chapter (AFP) is an association of professionals throughout the world that advances philanthropy by enabling people and organizations to practice ethical and effective fundraising. AFP fulfills this mission through education, training, mentoring, research, credentialing and advocacy.

GrantStation  is an Alaskan-based interactive website that allows grant seekers to identify potential funding sources for their programs or projects, and mentors them through the grantseeking process.

Philanthropy Northwest is an association of community, private and public foundations, corporations and individuals committed to improving the quality of life in our five-state region. Promoting effectiveness in the practice of philanthropy, we offer technical assistance, information, consulting and networking to both established and emerging grantmaking institutions and philanthropists.

Rasmuson Foundation is a catalyst to promote a better life for Alaskans. Programmatic interests include arts and culture, health, social services, organizational capacity building, community development, recreation, and education.

The Alaska Community Foundation  receives contributions both large and small from a broad range of individuals, private foundations, corporations, nonprofit organizations, and governmental entities on occasion.

The Alaska Conservation Foundation awards grants to protect the integrity of Alaskan ecosystems and promote sustainable livelihoods among Alaskan communities and peoples.

The CIRI Foundation supports organizations involved with Alaska Native heritage and education and awards scholarships, grants, and fellowships to Alaska Natives.

The Doyon Foundation supports organizations involved with Native Americans and awards college scholarships to shareholders and descendants of shareholders of Doyon Ltd.

United Way of Alaska is one of the largest private funders of health and human services in Alaska. They are also philanthropic partners to countless individuals and businesses, and the nonprofit community. Plus, they keep track of many philanthropic trends in Alaska.

Capacity Building, Public Relations & Technology Services

Board Source is a place for Board of Directors to learn how to be more effective.

Charity Navigator, America's premier independent charity evaluator, works to advance a more efficient and responsive philanthropic marketplace by evaluating the financial health of America's charities. 

Craigslist  is made up of local classifieds and forums for 450 cities worldwide, including Anchorage - it is also community moderated, and largely free.

Causecommunication.org has created an award winning media/communications toolkit that you can either order or download for free.  

Cause marketing finds the intersection between societal needs and corporate marketing goals.

Cause Marketing Forum, Inc. helps companies and nonprofits work together on marketing campaigns.  They have a lot of great examples of successful campaigns on their site.  

Energize is a portal on volunteer management, including books, links, articles, interviews and more.

Idealist A global directory of nonprofit-related information, including nonprofit organizations, consultants, products, services, publications, and events. You'll also find nationwide listings on jobs and internships.

Mal Warwick provides resources for the development professional embarking on a direct mail program

The Nature Conservancy has an excellent overview of the many different types of legacy gifts available to donors who are planning their major gifts to 501c(3) organizations -- this is also a useful overview for the development professional who like to better understand the different types of gifts that their donors may be considering.  They also have an on-line gift calculator.

Nonprofit Risk Management Center The Nonprofit Risk Management Center provides information on managing risk in the human resources area as well as others (for example, avoiding litigation).

Npower is a network of independent, locally based nonprofits providing accessible technology help that strengthens the work of other nonprofits.

ONE/Northwest provides technology services to environmental nonprofits in the Pacific Northwest.

TechSoup Stock connects nonprofits with donated and discounted technology products. Choose from over 240 products from 25 providers including Cisco and Microsoft.

Favorite e-Newsletters

Alaska Funding Exchange, Inc. (AFE) offers a great e-newsletter that has an Alaska focus.

Board Café is the electronic newsletter exclusively for members of nonprofit boards of directors.

Guidestar is a place to learn about other nonprofits in your area.

Nonprofit Online News publishes the news of the Online Nonprofit Community

The Savvy Giver is a free newsletter and website for people who love to give and receive. It's an insider's guide to who's selling what to help whom. Advertisers call it "cause marketing" (see above). We might call it guilt-free shopping.

Nonprofit Newspapers & Magazines

Chronicle of Philanthropy This national magazine on grants and giving has made its informative articles, a searchable guide to grants, and a host of other information available online. Some material is free; most requires a password.

Grassroots Fundraising Journal The Grassroots Fundraising Journal website offers practical, how-to instruction on fundraising strategies such as direct mail, special events, major gift campaigns, and online fundraising.

123Signup is online event registration and membership management software  

Acteva is an online event registration and payment solution

Eventbright allows attendees to register for an event. If your events are free, using even their Premium service won't cost you anything. Otherwise, your fee is based on the ticket price of your event. 

ReadySetAuction is web-based, benefit auction management software

Upcoming facilitates event registration and it allows those you invite to publicly note whether they will be attending. It integrates with iCalendar, and is free for all events.

A Sampling of Nonprofit Software & On-line Services 

Campaign Window  is a self-service website package and activism tool -- users can sign-up and have their own website (with CMS) and it also has GOTV, Email blasting, Action alerts, etc.

Democracy in Action is a relatively low-cost alternative to Convio, Kintera, and GetActive, specifically geared towards progressive nonprofit organizations. DIA is designed to hook into an existing website and provide online engagement tools along with a membership database to track member/contact use of those tools.

Donor Perfect is donor relations management software.

DonorWorks is donor relations management software.

eTapestry is a web-based donor relations management system.  It is also free to groups starting out with a small number of records.  

GiftWorks is fundraising software that is also sold at a drastically reduced cost through tech-soup.  

Kintera is donor relations management software based on a corporate CRM model.

Paradigm is a combination of accounting and fundraising software.

Prospect Research Online (PRO) Platinum  is a web-based database created solely for non-profit organizations. PRO Platinum provides subscribers with information as they source financial support from individuals, corporations and foundations. 

Raiser's Edge The Cadillac of fundraising software solutions.  They also offer a FREE gift range calculator  on thier website.  It will calculate the number and size of gifts you will need to achieve a campaign goal, and is based on industry standards that fundraising professionals have been using for decades.  Thier pyramid is more applicable for capital campaigns but can be adapted for annual appeals.  

Results/PLUS is donor relations management software.

Salesforce.com is a CRM management web-based platform originally desigined for the business world.  However, they also offer free use to non-profits.  Right now, ONENorthwest is helping environmental non-profits make the switch to using Salesforce.
